All new recruits are given an induction into the company and training is dependent on experience and existing skill set.
Training / induction is set in a controlled environment where staff gain comprehension of drawings / documentation, equivalent IPC 3 standards, component recognition and processes for effective production. Staff are encouraged to and informed why batch building is important – eliminating risk of error. They are informed why using procedures and work instructions are significant – eliminating risk of error, efficiently producing correct products, removing risk of unnecessary expenditure.
All training / inductions notifies of BSI, ISO 9001:2015, IPC 3 as well as the QMS. Quality awareness, The Code of practice and Change control procedure is reiterated throughout. Self-evaluation is recapped and constantly encouraged.
During training, inexperienced staff are encouraged to perform tasks to equivalent IPC 3, they are given training kits to build to focus on these targets. Exercises are given to focus on trainee’s eye for detail, fault-finding skills and improving their understanding of the need for an analytic approach to the work produced. Training kits are repeated as needed to hit targets. Individual assessments are kept and monitored for progression. Correct processes I.E batch building and self-evaluation is reiterated as necessary with individuals.
New recruits remain in the Training room, where all jobs / processes are thoroughly observed and 100% inspected as much as is viable before any work leaves the room. As soon as staff are confident of fundamental processes and skills they are released into the workshop. Once they are in the workshop on the job training from supervision continues in order to progress individuals. Training and guidance are provided for new builds and retraining is given to staff who underperform.
Training & induction encourages staff to make supervision aware of discrepancies with their route card, tooling or kit, so necessary changes can be made via the Change control procedure.
Due to the dynamics of the company the style and profile of work is varied and continually changing. This necessitates retraining of staff to cover all aspects of demand as appropriate to ensure customer specification is met. Retraining offers staff the opportunity to develop their knowledge /skill sets, which improves their promotional potential and improves customer service provided.
Training and assessments can identify gaps in skill sets, processes used and methods of production which can improve productivity.
Staff are encouraged to offer methods they feel are more cost effective for production.
Staff productivity and quality are monitored monthly; statistics are used to identify training needs for staff improvements and for continuous improvement of processes, procedures and quality within the company.
The standard network installation course is designed to help newcomers to the industry, including electricians who are looking to enhance their skill set. It will also appeal to maintenance and facilities engineers who will be able to carry out smaller installations and repairs rather than deploy a tradesman. Sales people will also benefit, as having an understanding of the installation process will enable them to cost projects more accurately and make their bids more competitive.
